This is the flaming sword of Manjushri, cutting through to the truth of our suffering.
Manjushri is a Buddhist bodhisattva most associated with the awakening of wisdom. He is also related the creation story of the Kathmandu. He came to the edge of the valley, and seeing a lotus glowing on the lake that once filled the valley, he cut a swath through the hills and drained the lake. The lotus sat at the spot where the famed Swayambhunath stupa now sits.
